Troubles in Bear Land

Collector Comment

"We wanted something to remember great times living in Arizona as well as our life spent in Wisconsin. Who better to capture the memories of our “Two Lives” than Joan White. Having several of her pieces already, we knew she was the right person to create a very special piece. We gave her a list of the items we wanted and we were so excited to see the perfect piece of wood she chose to make this creation. She has exceeded our expectations, as usual, with what she created for us. Each time we look at our new painting we are reminded of the great life we have both experienced together. We will always be grateful to Joan for capturing our Two Lives."

"Our volunteer group, The Peregrine Team in Pine Canyon, was celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024. We wanted to do something special for our Program Lead to honor all that she has done in the past 10 years to protect peregrine falcons. We commissioned Joan to create that special gift inspired by many of the photos taken by team members. It was such a pleasure to work with Joan in creating this magical artwork. Her attention to detail is unsurpassed. She not only captured the peregrines in their habitat, but her artwork breathed the essence and soul of the mountain where these magnificent falcons reside."

"I don’t know where to start: Joan made the whole commission experience so easy and enjoyable. She is such a gentle soul and listens patiently to your vision and explains every part of the process clearly. We were even able to follow the progress, too! The finished piece has its own feeling and energy-it represents the Northwoods atmosphere we enjoy so much and looks beautiful on our main living area wall. Everyone who sees it is drawn into the scene that seems to come alive. We are so thankful to have a Joan White original and consider her art priceless!"

"I have know Joan for many decades. (I am that old…she isn’t.) First thing about her is her “weird” mind.Second thing is her even greater talent. Third is her ability to combine the two! She is unique. Onecannot describe, nor fully appreciate her work until one sees it. For example, a beautiful woodland creekand forest with a least 30+ animals looking/peeking at you. The fourth thing about her is she is anexceptionally nice person! Commissioned work or off the shelf, she is the BEST!"

We've owned several Joan White pieces through the years and loved every one of them. They all were lost in a wildfire in Colorado. We were heartbroken to lose our cabin perched in the most beautiful setting imaginable. I asked Joan for an original piece that would encompass our Kawuneeche Ranch and sent her a written story of what the place meant to us and photos of the wildlife that gathered in the meadow and on our front porch. She understood in her soul the vast depth of our loss. The original piece captures the natural beauty and wildlife and will help us in forever remembering our special place. We are replanting and rebuilding. Joan's piece will hold an honored spot when we have completed our new cabin. Using her insight, love of nature and incredible talent, she captured the heart of soul of what we needed.

Commission a Painting!

Joan dedicates some of her time every year to special orders or commissioned paintings. She meets with the client either personally, by phone or email to discuss the project. She considers the client's specific requests about animal/theme, size and wood type when selecting the perfect piece of wood for the project. It is an exciting collaboration between artist and collector from the initial sketch, through the painting process to the finished piece. Please contact Joan to discuss your personal painting. Prices range from $1,500 - $10,000.
